New artwork: Fuck Polo yeah. These were the words (or at least the words to this effect) that I saw in a list of ideas for muscle growth stories in the old MGS site, and these were later on brought to life by polomuscle in his story Chris Joins the Polo Club. Even then I found the concept of heavily built fratboys praising the power of Polo to be... strangely erotic, and I hope to have captured a little of that spirit in this catalog of Polo-wearing preppies--pumped up to the max, of course. Fuck Polo yeah. ;)

Miracle on Ice--A lot less sappy than Remember the Titans and a lot more exciting than The Rookie (which I liked a lot), Miracle retells the story of how hockey coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) and his ragtag team of college-age kids beat the odds and emerged as the 1980 Olympic champions. Thanks to the fast and furious action shots that were never confusing and a suspenseful build-up that remained thrilling despite knowing the ultimate outcome, this is probably the best live action Disney flick I've seen to date. Laugh Deter--IMO, this critic's attack on Jon Stewart, who's ripe to target because of his growing influence, is just a blatant attempt to drum up publicity for the author's premiere piece on TNR. Beat off to beat cancer--"Frequent sexual intercourse and masturbation protects men against a common form of cancer, suggests the largest study of the issue to date yet." And they said wanking wasn't healthy... ha! [c/o Boing Boing]

The Passion of the Christ-- What a bloody mess that was. Mel Gibson's heavyhanded, histrionically accurate, and extremely physical portrayal of the last twelve hours of Jesus's life may count as religious experience for others, but after "almost three hours of sadomasochistic, noisy imagery," for me the spirituality got lost in the translation that was programmed to elicit a visceral rather than an intellectual reaction. (Heaven forbid if Christian fundamentalists and Catholic tradionalists would want their flock of sheep to think on that level. Jeebus go-o-o-d, sin ba-a-a-d.) Hell, Jesus Christ Superstar was more reverent to the message of Love and Forgiveness than this self-flagellating spectacle. As a prettified propoganda package, the "Jesus Chainsaw Massacre" is truly the greatest story ever sold. Salon

Scooby Doobie Two--Surprisingly engaging and a whole lot of fun (much more than the original in fact), Scooby-Doo 2 pays homage to its animated past with a case that lets those meddling kids do what they do best: solve the mystery and run like hell while doing it. (And it was great seeing Buffy and Oz again.) Though it's not sure if there'll be another Scooby movie after this, it's safe to say at least on the small screen this great dane has a lot of dog years left in him yet.

Some links for April Fool's

80s TV shows you've never seen but wish you have

  • Comedies: The Fucks of Life, Hose the Boss, and Spunky Brewster
  • Soaps: Nuts Landing, Gays of Our Lives, and The Hung and the Restless

And imagine if Family "Ties" (ooh, kinky), Knight "Rider" (slam that ass), Charles "in Charge" (punish me!), and Diff'rent "Strokes" (ah yeah, baby) went on a different tack, we would have had a lot more interesting things to watch then. ;)
